CoStar Research Associates are the foundation of CoStar’s business and play a pivotal role accurately capturing business-critical information for an assigned portfolio of properties.  By pro-actively contacting leading commercial property professionals, building relationships with them, and asking the right questions, Research Associates obtain real-time data to ensure that CoStar's database accurately reflects the listings, inventory, and recent deals in the marketplace. Our Research Associates collectively provide the data facilitating over $500 billion dollars in real estate transactions annually.

As a Research Associate, you will be at the core of every commercial real estate decision happening in around the country, building relationships with key players in the market, while developing your real-estate acumen, and market fundamentals. This is an opportunity to learn firsthand from real estate professionals (brokers, owners, developers, investors, lenders, appraisers, etc.), through multiple perspectives on the industry that you wouldn’t receive from a typical research department in a brokerage firm. We have invested over $1 billion in our research operations including career development opportunities for our research team through management, consulting/ advisory roles, or a future career in commercial real estate.

Essential functions of a Research Associate:

• Develop mutually beneficial relationships with our contacts within the different commercial markets around the country, explaining the value received, by providing CoStar with a frequent and current flow of information.  Consult with clients to ensure that their listings and transactions are accurately captured for the best return on their investment of time and information shared.
  • Capture detailed transaction information allowing other deal makers to make informed decisions about deals in their market, with a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and quantity.
  • Effectively brand CoStar during research interviews and ensure contacts understand value provided – strive to understand and explain the ‘why.’
• Help to tell a story of the market by capturing the full universe of commercial real estate information (listings, transactions, deals, etc.), dissecting trends and information provided and conducting in depth phone interviews with contacts to create a more accurate picture of the overall market.
• Grow an accurate and complete database of commercial real estate inventory by tracking all available spaces for sale and lease, as well as accurately tracking information on all completed sale and lease deals within a market.
• Convert leads from outside sources to new transactions and contacts—these sources include web sites, field leads, SEC filings, news stories, and tax records.
• Write news stories on breaking commercial real estate news uncovered through research.
• Use the company database and Excel to track and measure quality and quantity in individual performance and set goals to sufficiently capture the market.  Identify and create efficiencies in current workflow to make time for new….

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree is required
• Demonstrated interest in and a passion for a long-term career in commercial real estate
• Successful candidate will excel in a fast-paced, highly competitive environment and will be tenacious, adaptable, resilient, and fearless.
• Ability to think through concepts from beginning to end and determine if it makes sense, applying new concepts with ease; critical listening skills are imperative to success.
• Proficiency in Windows-based applications, particularly MS Excel
• U.S. Work Authorization required
