Programmer

Description

Balyasny Asset Management is looking for a programmer to join a small, entrepreneurial team.  You will design and develop a large scale web scraping program with a focus on data extraction.  Seize the opportunity to build a project from the group up, work on new and interesting projects, and see immediate results from your hard work.  You will work closely with multiple portfolio managers and need to have an interest in financial services.

You will gain extensive experience with the latest open-source technologies including django, celery, memcache, rabbitmq, hadoop and databases (SQL and noSQL).  You will also work with a myriad of web scraping technologies such as mechanize, webkit, twill, requests, ghost, lxml and beautifulsoup

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
• Expertise in Python
• Ability to analyze data to identify deliverables, gaps and inconsistencies
• Basic understanding and interest in statistical analysis
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

Desired

• Experience with Hadoop or other large scale data processing infrastructure
• Coursework or practical experience with data mining and building algorithms
• Practical experience with data analytics and visualization
• Experience with mathematical packages such as R, MATLAB
