Lead Pastor

 

Mars Hill Church’s mission is to plant churches and make disciples. We have grown from a small Bible study to over 12,000 weekly attenders at 14 different churches in 4 states: Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, and California. We are humbled and excited by the work we have seen God do over the past few years. As Mars Hill churches continue to be planted there is a need for lead pastors to lead and shepherd the local Mars Hill churches. 

 

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Lead Pastor is the primary visionary for the local work of each Mars Hill Church. Through teaching, writing, training, and shepherding, he encourages the congregation to believe the gospel and live on mission for Jesus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fulfill the duties required of Mars Hill Church members as outlined in the membership covenant.
  • Fulfill the character qualifications of an elder as taught in the Scriptures.
  • Philosophical alignment with church leadership. 
  • Passionate about casting vision and developing leaders.
  • Humble desire to continually improve and build a world-class church and ministry operation.
  • Commitment to serving Mars Hill Church and support the mission. 
  • Discretion, perseverance, patience, and a sense of humor; team spirit and genuine caring.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Strong gift for leadership and a proven track record of developing leaders of leaders.
  • Love for Jesus and a desire to see lives and communities changed by the gospel. 
  • Entrepreneurial aptitude. 
  • Successful at multi-tasking, time management, prioritizing, and influencing a team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality and trust regarding church and member information.
  • Ability to work with and maintain positive, loyal relationships with others inside and outside the church.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that the local church excels in the area of Mars Hill’s four ministry priorities: Sunday services, community, leadership, and training.
  • Lead and develop church staff. 
  • Preach, pray, and disciple the church. 
  • Create and cast vision for staff, volunteers, and church members.
  • Collaborate and work with Mars Hill Church departments and central ministries to carry out the mission.
  • Ensure the health of the local Mars Hill church.
  • Keep teams on mission for Jesus.
  • Serve as the primary point of connection for first-time guests.
  • Network within the congregation and the community to build strategic relationships.
  • Set an example as an effective missionary, and a husband and father.   
  • Oversee capital campaigns and fundraising efforts for local church and church planting when needs arise.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, plus Sunday responsibilities

Hours: Full Time, exempt

Vacation: Four weeks vacation, one week personal, plus one week at Christmas
