SCOPE AND DUTIES

The Intern for Leadership Alliances will be working in the Washington, DC Office of Americans for the Arts. As an intern with the Leadership Alliances department, you will work closely with the Leadership Alliances Coordinator and Leadership Alliances Manager in the development of a broad range of projects designed to assist in the preparation of cultivation and relationship-building programs.  These programs are designed to improve connections with individuals who have the capacity to heighten the profile and fundraising capacity of the organization. Individuals include grass-tops leaders in the corporate, foundation, artistic, and individual philanthropic fields. 

The following is a listing of projects and duties:

  • Assist with the preparation and follow up of the annual National Arts Award, including but not limited to:
    • Conduct prospect research and create bios for individual, corporate, and foundation prospects to be distributed internally among staff;
    • Conduct follow-up calls to potential program attendees;
    • Assist with solicitation and stewardship mailings;
    • Write acknowledgement letters as needed;

 

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the overall department to ensure that the department is well-managed and organized, including:
    • Use search databases and publications such as the Chronicle of Philanthropy, online business magazines, WealthEngine, and Google for general prospect research;
    • Records management- Creating and maintaining hard and electronic files for grass-tops leaders;
  • Assist with the planning and execution of The Aspen Seminar for Leadership in the Arts and the National Arts Policy Roundtable, including but not limited to topic research and briefing documents.
  • Assist with Accolades, the Leadership Alliances and Development publication
  • Attend key meetings and take notes;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to mail merge and data sort in Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and research skills
  • Comfortable conversing with board members, artists, donors and prospective donors via telephone and in person.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
