SCOPE
The Americans for the Arts Internship Program offers undergraduate the opportunity to investigate and participate in the operations of the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America. Through a combination of departmental projects and group collaborations, interns become integral members of our team. Program benefits include career support, member services, and a series of leadership discussions with Americans for the Arts staff. Interns are expected to participate in daily activities, contribute skills and ideas, and produce excellent work, all the while preparing to become the next generation of arts, nonprofit, and cultural leaders.
The Membership Department is responsible for managing Americans for the Arts professional membership program, composed of over 1500 arts-related organizations and 1300 individuals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Membership Marketing Intern works within the Local Arts Advancement department to assist staff with a number of projects to support and promote and maintain the professional membership program. These tasks will include:

Participating in Local Arts Advancement Department weekly meetings

Communicating with our national member base for marketing and recruitment research and outreach, as well as providing service

Aid in target market research

Market the Americans for the Arts Job Bank to new and current employers

Work with membership staff with the recruitment and retention of new and renewing members

Assist in updating member contact information

Assist in archiving and tracking past membership campaigns

Attend membership campaign planning meetings

(Summer intern only) Compose and deliver Annual Member Satisfaction Survey to a select number of members via phone and email

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree (or currently enrolled in and undergraduate program)

Baseline knowledge of Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to communicate and interact within a team and maintain professional behavior in an office setting.

An interest in marketing, membership/fundraising, or arts administration, with either professional or academic experience in these areas.
