Description

For more than 70 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances. BGCMA enriches the lives of girls and boys that other youth agencies fail to reach. BGCMA is dedicated to ensuring that our community’s young people, who are most in need of our help, have greater access to quality programs and services that provide promise, hope and opportunities to ensure that they may become productive adults.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Executive Director, observes youth in and around pool to ensure safe behavior and adherence to rules, and provides care to those in distress.

Only Candidates wth a lifeguard certification will be considered.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes: Orients new members to water safety instruction and swim program, special events, and opportunities as well as to club safety, program and disciplinary rules.
  • Orients new members to club safety rules for the pool and surrounding areas.
  • Observes youth using pool and helps those in distress.
  • Monitors pool and surrounding areas for safety hazards.
  • Maintains order and discipline of club members and enforces safety rules.
  • Checks pool water and records readings three times daily to insure within safe limits; takes and records pool readings.
  • Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Works as a team member to assist aquatics staff during periods when pool is not being utilized by swimmers.
  • Recommends needed repairs to facility and/or equipment and reports to APM.
  • Participates in training/educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated ability to swim (lifeguard must be present during demonstration).
  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum one year experience preferred.
  • Must be age 16, lifeguard and First Aid and CPR certified.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING:

  • All B&G Club lifeguards will be required to successfully complete the Starfish Aquatic Institute lifeguard certification as well as take part in regular in service training.
