Description

Dog Trainer

Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) seeks enthusiastic, reliable, experienced animal behavior and training professionals to instruct training classes, seminars and workshops under HSSV's Training Curriculum. 

 

HSSV has been serving people and pets in the Silicon Valley for 84 years.  Our Animal Community Center is the first environmentally certified "green" animal facility in the country to offer cageless animal care and an adoption program with a full spectrum of pet and community services.  Our Training Programs focus on newly acquired pets and reward those who have chosen the adoption option.  We support the human-animal bond by teaching pet parents about animal care and behavior in a manner that effectively translates from the classroom to the real world. 

 

Our dog trainers are committed to:

o    Scientifically sound, force-free, reward based methods,

o    Delivering quality service for people and their pets in a friendly, informative, and non-judgmental manner,

o    Working with homeless animals and their individual behavioral challenges as they transition into new homes and families,

o    Seeking feedback from customers and providing feedback to the Behavior and Training Team for program enhancement, and

o    HSSV values and mission to Save and Enhance Lives.

 

Our trainers must:

o    Be willing and able to set up and break down classes; perform basic cleaning for disease control purposes in our training space,

o    Have a high-level of comfort when it comes to handling dogs of all types, sizes and temperaments

o   Show a Certificate of Liability insurance in line with HSSV standards, and

o    Join our team as independent contractors.

 

Qualifications:

o    Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) preferred.  CPDT expected to be completed within one year and other professional certifications with comparable experience will be considered.

o    Successful completion of a recognized dog training/behavior program such as: SF/SPCA Dog Training Academy, Jean Donaldson's Academy for Dog Trainers, Marin Humane Society Canine Behavior Academy, Animal Behavior College, Trish King's Academy of Dog Behavior, or Karen Pryor Academy. 

o    Minimum 1-3 years teaching classes in a lead role.

o    Bilingual individuals encouraged to apply.

o    Availability on weekends and weeknights.
