Integrated Forensic Solutions (IFS), a division of NMS Labs, is a full-service, fully-accredited criminal forensic laboratory whose mission is to provide timely, reliable forensic testing to the law enforcement communities it serves. IFS helps PDs and DAs to focus on what they do best (protect and serve). Just as important as delivering fast, accurate, lab results, IFS has the training and law enforcement background to be personally invested in each case.

NMS Labs is an ISO accredited independent provider of clinical and forensic toxicology, endocrinology and criminalistics laboratory services for the health care and forensic sciences communities.  Since 1970, we have built a reputation as a provider of innovative, first-to-market and hard-to-find testing that has evolved to a broad menu of over 2,500 laboratory tests.

We are seeking regular full time Forensic Scientists to staff our up-and-coming remote laboraties.  The successful candidate must be able and willing to relocate to anywhere in North America after successful completion of training at our Willow Grove, PA location (approximately 6 months), and at our Bedford, TX location (approximately 1 month).  A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science is required.  At least 6 months lab related experience is preferred, and experience working in an ASCLD-LAB accredited lab is strongly preferred.  We also prefer coursework, including labs, in general, organic, and analytical chemistry.  Experience with court testimony is a plus.  The Forensic Scientist will perform chemical and analytical testing, and will isolate, identify, and quantify chemical substances in forensic casework samples.  Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Handling and sampling of forensic casework samples
  • Maintaining the appropriate chain of custody of evidence
  • Independently performing analysis of chemical substances utilizing chemical, microscopic, TLC, and instrumental methods to include GCMS, GC/FID, HPLC, and FTIR
  • Generating, interpreting, reviewing, and releasing results
  • Performing routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation
  • Providing expert testimony
  • Performing and maintaining appropriate quality assurance and quality control procedures
  • Effectively communicating scientific findings to internal and external clients

The Forensic Scientist must have working knowledge of analytical procedures including a basic understanding of analytical terminology, methods, and theory, and should be able to apply these to forensic cases.  A high level of integrity is required, as well as good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.  The Forensic Scientist must have the ability to follow SOPs, as well as compliance standards and safety practices.  Physical demands include:

  • Ability to hear
  • Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects or tools
  • Movement from one work location to another
  • Sitting and standing, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment
  • Exposure to fumes, noxious odors and dust
  • Exposure to biological material and blood-borne pathogens
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Proximity to moving parts
