The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Chair of its Department of Dance. Candidates should possess demonstrated leadership abilities that include management expertise; and a strong knowledge of both ballet and modern techniques, dance, and the current profession as well as strong administrative experience that includes an understanding of university processes and budget management. Candidates must have demonstrated accomplishment as a performer, teacher, scholar, and/or creative artist, commensurate with the rank of associate professor.
For seven decades, Adelphi’s Dance Department has housed a veritable Who’s Who of North American dance artists and educators including Ruth St. Denis, Jack Cole, Jane Dudley, Louis Horst, Hanya Holm, Juana de Laban, Paul Taylor, Carmen de Lavallade, Rebecca Wright, and Frank Augustyn. The department, which has evolved from a non- professional dance program into a conservatory level BFA training program today, recently moved into exceptional new facilities and strengthened and enlarged its curriculum.
