Description
The Director of Engineering, Men’s Health, drives and directs the effort/initiative and team to bring an external acquisition or internally developed product from acquisition/inception to pre- or full market launch stage. Leading cross-functional personnel and resources, the individual ensures the successful product realization through consistent leadership. This position is also responsible for conceiving product designs and developing a plan of development/implementation that compliments the AMS strategic goals and priorities for the new project/product that ensures successful attainment of project goals within the context of R&D strategy. 
 
 
·         Establishes and leads cross-functional project teams in the development, verification, validation and submission of new products; interfaces with all departments participating in the development timelines to meet the milestones.*
·         Interfaces with key physicians and KOLs on user expectations and product features and relays in vitro data and participates during in vitro animal studies.*
·         Drives key physician innovation with respect to top projects.
·         Keeps abreast of industry trends and competitive activity and introduces new technologies to the company.
·         In cooperation with Marketing, Business Development and Physicians, leads efforts to identify and discover new product opportunities and target markets that are consistent with the company’s objectives and strategic plan.*
·         Provides business line leadership across all functions in the business leader role in partnership with the Director of Marketing and the Director of Regulatory and Clinical on behalf of the MH Team.*
·         Manage the day-to-day business activities of the team to achieve key business objectives and strategies, with an emphasis on growth.
·         Participate in acquisition related due diligence activities.*
·         Facilitates communication of pertinent information to department managers and the Project Review Group.
·         Independently solves complex engineering problems.
·         Leads and mentors his/her team, ensuring that the organization is staffed with highly motivated and skilled professionals who contribute to the overall AMS mission.*
·         Travels domestically and internationally as necessary to meet business and customer needs.*
·         Participates in training sessions that may involve the use of cadaveric specimens.*
·         Communicates at all levels within the organization to ensure that Development plans are clearly understood and the vision, values and philosophy of the corporation are maintained.*
·         Member of the Men’s Health Business Team which drives the segment globally
·         Leads the MH Portfolio Review and alignment for key projects to ensure maximum business profitability.
·         Works with CTO to drive best practices in Product Delivery, portfolio planning, and project excellence throughout the AMS organization.
·         Work with CTO to scan for new technologies for Men’s Health applications.
 
 
* Essential functions
EDUCATION
·          Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline required, Master’s or Advanced degree preferred
 
EXPERIENCE
·         Organizational depth and diversity of experience with a working knowledge of new product realization
·         Minimum 10+ years engineering experience in the medical device industry
·         Minimum 5 years of management experience
·         A well-rounded business background with a broad understanding of marketing and financials, including P&L experience
·         Extensive track record of commercial launch of $25+ million dollar revenue programs
 
SKILLS
·         Strong business acumen
·         Ability to establish immediate credibility at all levels of the organization
·         Proven analytical and problem solving skills
·         Self-initiator in relation to project and/or project teams, with demonstrated history of proven performance in achieving success through a team
·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·         Good working knowledge of the activities required in the product delivery cycle.
·         Ability to coach/mentor people in junior positions with proven ability to lead and effectively work, influence and negotiate in a cross-functional team setting
·         Strong presentational skills and ability to communicate critical issues
·         Excellent negotiation skills
·         Knowledge of company’s functional areas and of the product delivery process
·         Understands and complies with ISO/GMP requirements
·         PMA and Global experience in launch of Class III products.
·         An excellent understanding of tools such as Fast Learning and Outcome Driven Innovation to allow the discovery of unobvious, unmet needs of the customer and to translate these needs into product specifications during the “Fuzzy Front End” of the product delivery process.
