Leads Technical Writing team, standards and practices. Works laterally across the organization to match business requirements with good practices. Works as a writer to design, write, publish, and maintain high-quality, customer-focused technical content, including technical manuals, technical illustrations, on-line help, service bulletins, and other materials as needed to support Hypertherm’s products. Ensures that the Technical Writing team’s structure and capabilities are designed to meet the strategic needs of the company.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the technical writing requirements of all new and existing product lines are met according to business operating plans. Plans and executes hiring and associate development.
• Develops a technical documentation plan for each project that outlines deliverables and provides due dates for those deliverables that meet the product launch requirements.
• Develops written content, technical illustrations, and photos as required for deliverables; obtains technical reviews of that content; and ensures the accuracy of revisions to provide the customer with the highest quality technical materials.
• As part of the technical writing team, revises safety, warranty, and other boilerplate information as needed to ensure Hypertherm’s customers receive accurate information.
• Establishes and uses styles and formats for all Hypertherm technical content and participates in the creation and revision of the technical writing style guide.
• Creates translation-ready content, delivers that content to team associates on time to enable them to meet translation deadlines, and collaborates to resolve any problems with the content that arise during the translation process.

Required Qualifications

• BA or BS degree, preferably in Communications, English, or a technical field.
• 10 years’ experience as a technical writer
• 3 years experience leading and developing others writer

  he ability to lead the development of technical writers and practices across the organization
• Strong communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading
• Ability to understand and interpret technical and scientific data
• Ability to organize a wide variety of technical material

• Working knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, PageMaker, Quark, Illustrator, PhotoShop, or similar tools

The ideal candidate will have a track record of improving technical writing practices and business processes. They will have used both formal and informal leadership authority in a large organization with multiple product lines.
