The Translations Project Leader plans for and manages the translation and production of technical manuals, marketing brochures, and other documents into foreign languages. This includes working with desktop publishing associates, business team marketing associates, regional marketing associates, marketing services associates, technical writers, and customer training associates to understand the scope and priority of translation needs.
Responsibilities
- Manages and improves the translations and desktop publishing (DTP) business process for 20+ languages. Utilizes external translators (freelance and agency) and internal DTP resources, with some full-service outsourcing.
- Provides for the well-being and associate development of the DTP staff.
- Adapts the layout of the text for Hypertherm technical documents (e.g. product manuals, brochures, training materials, internal policies and procedures) in a variety of languages, recreates artwork as needed, and prepares the final documents for printing and publication to the internet to support the Hypertherm global customer base by providing clear and consistent technical materials in local languages.
- Works with business, regional, and sales teams to define and schedule translation needs for product launches and existing materials.
Qualifications
- A.A.S. in desktop publishing or related field, such as graphic arts or communication
- 2-4 years leading multi-language, multi-region translation projects
- Track record of identifying, developing and working with external translation agencies
- InDesign, Quark, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Editing and proofreading experience for global documents
- Ability to work with technical information, such as charts and graphs
- Knowledge of fonts and typefaces
Preferred
- BS/BA Degree
- Experience with print, web-based, and electronic delivery of documents
- Familiar with both Mac and PC platforms
- Trados
- Familiarity with one or more foreign languages
- Database and internet-related communications and file transfer
