Electrical Engineer

The engineer shall be familiar with both US and International electrical standards as required by various codes to include most current versions of NEC, IEEE and IEC.  The engineer shall be responsible for reviewing and determining technical adequacy on a large number of projects ranging from simple conex residences to entire US or Afghan National Army complexes with a large number of buildings, diverse building types, medium voltage power distribution system, communications systems etc. Professional engineering registration is highly recommended. The engineer will be responsible for design, design review, shop drawing review, field inspection and resolution of problems for a wide range of projects requiring knowledge of the following:

  • Low voltage distribution systems, to include lighting, control systems, panels, grounding, and lightning protection;
  • Medium voltage distribution systems (both aerial and underground);
  • Generators (35 kw thru 1 MW in size), switchgear, transformers, transfer switches, load banks, synchronizers;
  • Interior and exterior communications systems (both copper and fiber optics and the associated end equipment and communication room requirements);
  • Lighting and electrical service for helicopter landing pads, airfields, roadways and project perimeters;

Construction materials include steel (bolted and welded), concrete, concrete masonry units (CMU), wood and stone. Systems include prefabricated metal buildings, containerized housing units (also called relocatable buildings), proprietary shotcrete/insulation building systems, post-tensioned concrete bridge girders, and other unique building systems. A thorough knowledge of code requirements for all structural materials and application to structural design is required. Given Afghanistan’s high seismic activity, the structural engineer shall have a strong seismic analysis and design background.  Knowledge of various structural engineering software is required to validate inputs and output summaries provided by others. A list of such software includes: SAP 2000, ETABS, SAFE, PERFORM-3D, CSICOL, STAAD Pro (Bentley), Robot (Autodesk), RISA, SAFI, Enercalc, RetrainPro, STA4-CAD, GTSTRUDL.
