Pacific Biosciences is seeking a Research Associate / Senior Research Associate to work within a dynamic interdisciplinary team to help us develop and characterize enzymes for our single molecule DNA sequencing system. The successful candidate will perform plasmid transformations, purify and qualify proteins, perform high throughput screening assays, and monitor the performance of enzyme libraries and equipment. The individual will assist with planning, development, and execution of validation experiments and deliver optimized and validated SOPs for transfer to other groups. The selected candidate must be able to analyze complex data critically, and interpret and integrate experiment results with project objectives.

Position Requirements:

• Education requirement: B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related scientific field, and two to four years of relevant experience, or recent M.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related scientific field, and demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles.

• Experience within the biotechnology industry is a plus. Must be technically proficient in general laboratory practices (biochemistry/molecular biology) and operation of robotic liquid handling equipment. Must have strong trouble-shooting abilities.

• Experience with plate-based high-throughput assays is required. Experience with HTP protein purification or cloning is beneficial.

• Able to manage several projects simultaneously.

• Effective communication (written/verbal) and ability to work independently and collaboratively are critical.

• Self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision.
