Pacific Biosciences is searching for a proven leader with demonstrated successes in product development to lead our Biochemistry/Enzymology Group. This individual will be responsible for the strategic, technical and organizational leadership needed for the development and commercialization of the biochemical products that are critical components for Pacific Biosciences’ Single Molecule Real Time (SMRT) DNA sequencing technologies. They will create and maintain the vision and be the scientific leader for biochemistry R&D as well as manage a scientifically diverse team. They will co-ordinate the work efforts and interactions of molecular biology, enzymology, structural biology, assay development, synthetic chemistry, bioinformatics and data analysis.

In addition to the successful development and commercialization of the products in the current development pipeline, this individual will be responsible for the generation, communication and execution of the group’s long term strategy which will successfully encompass current application targets as well as new, novel applications and future products. They will work closely with the scientific community and the executive management and strategic marketing teams to ensure that the group’s R&D strategy is in-line with corporate goals.


Requirements:

-A Ph. D. in biochemistry, or equivalent education with extensive biotechnology experience
-10 years of successful industrial management experience in the biological sciences
-Demonstrated experience in growing and leading technical groups
-Experience in structural biology, assay development, enzyme evolution and high throughput screening methods are desirable
-Extensive cross functional communication skills – productive interactions with organic chemistry, materials science and instrument systems engineering teams are required
