Description

POSITION PURPOSE

 

Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator’s research projects.  Perform experiments, analyze data, compile results, and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

1.    Design and execute complex research procedures.

 

2.    Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs.

 

3.    Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.

 

4.    Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring quality activities.

 

5.    Collaborate with principle investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.

 

6.    Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation.  May serve as primary statistician for area.

 

7.    Develop new methodologies for lab procedures.

 

8.    Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.

 

9.    Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.

 

10. May over see the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.

 

11. May manage data entry staff and activities surrounding database, data collection, data entry, and data management.

 

12. Manage analytical tools, including maintaining equipment, perform/supervise repairs, order supplies, negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders, update computer hardware and software.

 

13. May assist in training of students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows.

 

 

OTHER DUTIES

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

 

Education:                    PhD in a scientific field; PhD in Biomedical Engineering is preferred.

 

Experience:                  No experience required; experience in spinal cord DTI, animal models of TBI and SCI, small animal high field MRI, and spinal cord electrophysiology preferred.        

 

Certifications/Licenses: None

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies. Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.  Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.  Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.
