Basic Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge. Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree college or university program. The SSB Lloyd V. Berkner Space Policy internship program is aimed at undergraduate students majoring in physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, or geology. Must be a registered student at a U.S. university or college. Undergraduates at all stages of their studies are encouraged to apply, but those who have completed their junior year majoring in physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, or geology or related field are desired. Should have long-term career goals in space science research, applications, or policy. Should possess good written and verbal communications skills and a good knowledge of their particular area of study. Should be capable of responding to general guidance and working independently. Should be familiar with the internet, world-wide web, and basic research techniques.

Description

The Space Studies Board (SSB) provides an independent, authoritative forum for information and advice on all aspects of space science and applications. It oversees advisory studies and program assessments, facilitates international research coordination, and promotes communications on space science and science policy between the research community, the federal government, and the interested public.

The College Intern performs a number of basic research functions and activities that facilitate the research efforts of staff researchers. Conducts searches and compiles information or data and may assist in analyzing basic research results.  Tasks may include data entry and extraction, data conversion, manipulation, retrieval, editing, documentation, and formatting charts, graphic displays and tables.  May assist with administrative duties related to programs/projects.  Interns typically undertake one or more short-term projects designed to assist with or to enhance ongoing study projects.
