RESEARCH ANALYST


SEIU Local 1000, a cutting-edge public sector union representing 95,000 state employees is recruiting a Research Analyst for its Sacramento, California office. 

Our Research Analysts work with field organizers, contract negotiators and our legislative and political action organizers to develop and implement strategies that support the Union’s organizing, bargaining, legislative and political goals.

DUTIES:

  • Preparing reports or studies on issues relating to public policy and public services
  • Writing reports related to promoting public services by California state employees
  • Providing the rationale for promoting progressive social policies to members of the State Legislature, Governor’s office, and with other advocacy organizations   
  • Analyzing State proposals for subcontracting state work
  • Preparing statistical or financial analysis of the State’s tax and revenue sources and spending priorities
  • Conducting classification and compensation studies
  • Writing and analyzing surveys used for collective bargaining

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful, the ideal candidate should have

  • Three (3) years experience performing complex policy analysis
  • Expertise in analyzing funding sources for public services, budget and policy analysis, and outsourcing
  • Strategic political judgment and attention to detail
  • Excellent writing, communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and work creatively under tight deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and credibility with diverse demographic groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and service workers.
  • Ability to travel periodically
  • Ability to work long hours as necessary
  • Valid driver's license, car and insurance.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
