The North America Controller’s primary responsibilities will include managing the accounting staff and ensuring the timely and accurate production of both internal and external financial statements for Travelzoo’s North America operations. The North America Controller will also ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions, including SOX compliance, and provide leadership to the Accounting department. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will be based out of Travelzoo’s Silicon Valley office.
Job Responsibilities:
Manage the accounting staff which includes general accounting, collections, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Prepare internal and external financial statements in compliance with GAAP and SEC regulations.
Develop and provide financial analyses, interpretive reports, business metrics and budgets for the Company’s North America operations. Track progress against budgets, perform analyses, and ensure business leaders have the financial information and insight necessary to achieve goals.
Work with the CFO and business units to ensure appropriate financial planning, controls and budgeting meet business requirements.
Participate in the quarterly review and annual year-end audit process with the external auditors.
Provide support to the CFO in ensuring both short-term and long-term departmental goals are achieved.
Assess needs, create, develop and implement internal financial controls to ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions for Travelzoo’s North America operations.
Assess needs, create, develop and establish the Company’s financial policies and procedures that are in alignment with Company strategic and financial goals.
Requirements:
BS or equivalent in Accounting or Finance. MBA and/or CPA a plus
10+ years experience in accounting and finance
Excellent working knowledge of GAAP accounting
Ability to manage and grow a team. Supervisory experience managing and developing employee skills and performance also required
In depth experience working in a technology-oriented environment. Internet media or other media company work experience highly desirable
Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Solid financial reporting skills
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Sarbanes-Oxley compliance experience preferred
Both public accounting and industry experience are preferred
