Position Summary

The Sr. Motion Designer (Contract) is responsible for translating design into optimized digital files that make up a Web site, interstitial, micro site or banner ad.  These include images, animation, video and audio.  The Sr. Motion Designer also assists designers and multimedia editors with design, Flash, and other tools as needed.

In this role, the primary focus is Motion Design, although the Sr. Motion Designer is expected to take the lead on projects ranging from motion graphics to compositing, and 3D animation. On occasion, technical direction for green screen shoots, etc. may be required. Technical video knowledge is a huge plus, as this role is the go-to person for questions related to video formats and compression. The Sr. Motion Designer should be able to assist in budgeting/determining scope for projects. In this role, duties may range from completing smaller projects individually to running a small team, or working with other studios. This individual will serve as an expert resource, educating others on motion design and video. The Sr. Motion Designer may also be working remotely with Organic’s other offices in Detroit, New York, and Toronto. Work will be incorporated into online content, interactive websites, and banner ads, as well as in a variety of digital media that may run anywhere from your local bank to Times Square.

Other responsibilities are as follows: work with the lead creative developer, designers and interface engineers to track process and deliver all graphical assets for a web site or media campaign. Preserve the integrity of the design, while implementing it technically.

Education/Work Experience

  • 3+ yrs overall experience preferred including:
    • 2+ yrs in a digital design environment. Experience in client-service environment a plus.
    • 3+ yrs experience in Web environment.
    • Skills in Motion Design, Compositing, 3D animation, Technical Direction, 3D Tracking, Editing, and Cinematography.
    • Software experience with After Effects, Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Syntheyes, or other 3D tracking application.
    • Preparing, naming, programming and filing according to Creative Services production specs.
  • Expertise in design software and web implementation tools/languages on the Mac: Photoshop, Illustrator/Freehand, Flash, html, dhtml, javascript required.
  • Knowledge of Director, Generator, Advanced Action Scripting, S.M.I.L. a plus.
  • Understanding of capabilities of browsers and design constraints on the Web.
  • Working knowledge of Mac, Windows, and UNIX. URLs to show a must.
  • Background in graphic design, architecture, and advertising creative a plus.
  • Solid understanding of image optimization and compression.
  • Experience in audio and video optimization and compression.
  • Eager to learn more about Web design and/or production.
  • Good communication, time management and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Able and willing to learn new software and new technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience (fine art, graphic design, interactive design etc.).
