The Director of Development is a highly valued position of the management team that is critical to our organization. Looking for a strategic and passionate individual functioning in a role that gains new prospective donors and secures both private and public grants. This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Development, supervises a staff of 2-3 individuals and also works closely with the President and staffs the Board’s development committee. 
 
Education and/or Experience:                   
  • Bachelors or Masters in communications or business or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 5-6 years experience conceiving, managing and implementing development programs; with at least four years staff management and team building experience. Experience in a Non-Profit organization preferred.
  • Proven track record of success in personal solicitation of major gifts and in working with executives, Board members and senior staff of outside organizations.
  • Proven ability to oversee the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporations, foundations and individuals as potential donors.
  • Superior organization and communication skills.
  • Experience with government relations.
  • Demonstrated innovation and ability to lead and inspire.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the entire organization.
Responsibilities & Duties:             
  • Develops and articulates a vision that translates the Port Discovery strategic plan into specific action steps for the development effort.
  • Establishes and directs the development effort to maximize potential funding and generate private support.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits and develops prospects with the ability to make major gifts. 
  • Responsible for areas of Individual Giving, Foundation and Corporate Giving, and Government Relations.
  • Coordinate/and writing of the development of project proposals suitable for submission to local and national foundations.
