SCOPE
 
The Americans for the Arts Internship Program offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to investigate and participate in the operations of the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America. Through a combination of learning experiences, work projects, and group collaborations, interns become integral members of our team. Program benefits include career support, member services, and a series of leadership discussions with Americans for the Arts staff. Interns are expected to participate in daily activities, contribute skills and ideas, and produce excellent work, all the while preparing to become the next generation of arts, nonprofit, and cultural leaders.
 
As an intern with the Leadership Alliances Department, New York Office, of Americans for the Arts, you will work with the Director of Arts Policy in the administration, support, research and development of arts and culture policy initiatives and partnerships, including the Seminar for Leadership in the Arts and related forums in partnership with the Aspen Institute; the Americans for the Arts National Arts Policy Roundtable in partnership with the Redford Center at Sundance; as well as additional forums taking place in NYC and Art Basel.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The following is a listing of projects and duties:

  • Assist with preparing final policy reports from the 2009 Aspen and Sundance policy forums
  • Assist with the preparation of PowerPoint presentations targeting messages from the forums to a variety of audiences, i.e. artists, administrators, private and public sector leaders
  • Assist with the planning and execution of related activities in preparation for the 2010 programs
  • Assist in maintaining ongoing communication and follow up with participants in the policy forum events
  • Conduct preliminary research on the 2010 policy topics; as appropriate, synthesize findings and create abstracts and project profiles
  • Attend key meetings, conference calls and take notes
  • Some data input and management and filing needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products with proficiency with Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of mail merges and data sorting in Excel; an ability to create charts, graphs and visually present data and information in multiple media and social networking platforms is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and to communicate with staff and external constituents in a professional manner.
  • Interest in arts and culture policy, and a demonstrated ability to communicate critical issues and policies to a broad range of publics.
  • Exceptional writing, research and communication skills.
  • An inquisitive nature and gregarious personality is a plus!!!
