Summary:
 
Analyzes preliminary engineering-design concepts of unmanned aerial vehicle systems including all sub-systems (e.g. propulsion, airframe, C3 and other avionics) and recommend design and/or test validation methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering program to achieve customer reliability objectives.
  • Analyzes projected product utilization and calculates cumulative effect on final system reliability of individual part reliabilities. Drafts/manages FMEAs (failure mode and effect analyses) and/or formulates predictive mathematical reliability models using computer-aided engineering equipment to identify excessive failure risks and to support proposed changes in design.
  • Enters data to simulate electrical inputs, transient conditions, temperature, stress, and other factors to develop computer models, and analyzes and adjusts design to predict and improve system reliability.
  • Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give reliability findings and recommendations. Determines units requiring environmental testing and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.
  • Reviews subcontractors' proposals for reliability program and submits evaluation for decision. Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.
  • Observes conduct of tests at supplier, plant, or field locations to evaluate reliability factors such as numbers and causes of unit failures. Monitors failure data generated by customer using product to ascertain potential requirement for product improvement.
  • Relocation provided.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • BS engineering; MS engineering preferred. Aero, mechanical, or avionics preferred. Extremely strong degreed quality professionals with right skills and experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of directly applicable experience in aircraft reliability analyses
  • Aircraft systems and sub-systems design engineering experience required.
  • Expert with MTBF, MTTF, MTTR, MTBUR, FMEA, fault tree analyses, reliability block diagrams, etc. deterministic methodologies and capability to calculate system and sub-system % availability and R-values
  • Creates, analyses, and maintains Weibull, exponential, etc. models
  • Expert with stds including SAE JA1000, Mil-STD-810, Mil-STD-217
  • Expert with sensitivity analyses, reliability factor allocation and optimization methodologies
  • Experienced with reliability growth test design and execution incl. HALT, HASS
  • Operating in an AS9100 development and manufacturing environment desired
  • Tool skills desired include CATIA V5, Minitab, Crystal Ball, Relex suite, Microsoft suite
