Primary responsibilities/Job summary:
KeyPoint Government Solutions, formerly Kroll Government Services, is currently seeking investigators experienced in background investigations for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) throughout the United States for our travel duty (TDY) team.  Applicants may reside anywhere in the United States, but must be willing to travel away from home for 2-4 weeks at a time.  Work assigned for this position will be over 100 miles from the investigator's home. 
Investigators will conduct background investigations as independent contractors in support of national security, focusing on casework for OPM background investigations.  Engagements include conducting background investigations for the purpose of determining employment suitability of persons who require access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.  Independent contractors will conduct fact-to-face interviews with the subject and his/her neighbors, employers, friends, and family, as well as perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities.  Information obtained will be reported in a clear and concise report on a KeyPoint-facilitated, government-mandated computer system.
Independent contractors are not employees of KeyPoint and are compensated on an engagement-completed basis; benefits are not included.  Independent contractors may be required to complete a 1-week unpaid training class that will take place remotely via phone and online review.
Independent contractors work from their own homes.  To perform the job functions for this position, investigators should have their home office set up with the following:
  • Internet connection for case transmitting (KeyPoint provides a computer with the government-mandated programs)
  • Telephone available for work purposes
  • Multi-function machine with capability to print, scan, and fax
Home office expenses are not reimbursed by KeyPoint.
Minimum requirements:
  • Candidates must have current or recent (within the past year) experience conducting OPM background investigations; candidates with current OPM credentials will be given preference
  • Active or recently active (within the past year) federal security clearance with an SSBI is preferred
  • U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance)
  • Due to position requirements, a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of current auto insurance are required
Ideal candidates will have:
  • Intermediate typing (20+ WPM) and computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively manage time and work independently
  • Ability to professionally and effectively interact with a variety of individuals
